Frustrated

I haven’t been writing much about breastfeeding because it seemed to be going ok. Spencer was gaining at a very slow, but steady, 3 ounces a week.  We are still supplementing and he wasn’t very fussy, is meeting his milestones and acted like a generally happy little kiddo.  At his weight check Monday, there was no gain from last week. Not even a tenth of an ounce.  He has been spitting up a ton in the last few days and had been nursing nonstop.  I actually thought he was having a growth spurt. Nope. No idea what was wrong. He is just stuck at 12 pounds.  The LC recommended no changes until we do another weight check next week.

I have noticed a change in his nursing patterns in the last few days.  He has been nursing for shorter periods of time and falling asleep more often, but over all the number of times he is nursing per day has increased so I didn’t think it was a big deal.  But I am starting to get stressed out which might affect my supply.  And then today it seemed like my supply was lower, I started having trouble getting him latched on and he fussed a lot more at the breast.  I am hoping it is teething, not a breastfeeding issue.  I think I will start increasing the number of times I am pumping per day tomorrow.

4 Month Check-Up

After the horrible last appointment and the wait times and dirty lobby at this appointment, we are defiantly switching clinics.  Spencer was a trooper for his second round of vaccinations, no fever or reaction so far and it has been about 36 hours.  I am calling these his 4 month stats even though they are a little early.

Length: 26 inches Weight: 11 pounds 13 ounces Head: 16.5 inches

It turns out that he is in the 90th percentile for length and the 10th for weight.  The doctor said that is fine, but that she would prefer if he was gaining a little more.  This contradicts what she said at the last appointment when he had gained less and was in a lower percentile, but that was fine. Ugh. Definitely switching.

He seems to be doing pretty well developmentally.  He can roll both ways and is getting way more vocal.  We had his first true giggle today and that was awesome. I haven’t checked the baby book in a while, but I think he is on track for most things.  And he has learned to eat his foot which is just about the cutest thing ever.

Woo Hoo!

Baby Spencer had a 10 ounce gain this week. It looks like the supplemental bottles are getting the job done. My next goal is to pump enough to use only breastmilk in the bottles. I am feeling so positive about all of this today.
